Fan Clubs, Whats The Skinny

Fan clubs for sex workers are all the rage. Personal interaction with fans for cash is dominating the sex worker platform space. When you think of fan clubs most people think of Only Fans. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, that site is a pit. It’s shady as hell and is always on the brink of shutting down or has some drama following it around. There are even rumors its under federal investigation. It’s also the most popular fan club site and has the most press. I personally had an Only Fans for a while, I shut it down a few years back for being shady.  Lots of sex workers make money on that site so really the choice is up to you. I think there re better options.

I recently opened a Loyal Fans. I’m pretty impressed so far. There are a LOT of features and different way to monetize your content. From paid DMs, to a video store, to being able to send locked picture, video or voice messages. The feedback from clients is they like it and its easy to use from their end. I did a walk though with the Site manager on all the features and how best to use them and it was comprehensive and informative. Their referral program is great and is a lifetime bonus. If you want to check it out use my link to sign up as a creator and make sure to scheduled a walk though if you do.

Full disclosure: I do get a referral bonus but that comes out of the companies pocket.

I’m listing the others that i know people use but I do not have personal experience with them.  AVN Stars already called it quits and that really put a lot of people on the back foot who had invested time and effort. It had the AVN name but clearly that wasn’t enough to keep them in business with a flourishing fan club option for sex workers. Make sure whatever fan club you decide on you research them thoroughly. Find out who the owners are (not always easy), are they based in the USA, how are they handling content moderation (this is huge), whats the referral program, are they professional, do they treat sex workers with respect or are they just looking to make a quick buck off us? All these things matter cuz putting effort into making a fan club grow is a LOT of work and time and you don’t want to waste yours. I know I don’t.

How to spend your advertising dollars

PWoman-holding-bag-of-money-via-Shutterstockaying for advertising sucks, but it is necessary. All successful business pay for advertising and sex work is no different from any other business. Spending your money wisely.. now thats the hard part. It’s hard to know what works and what doesn’t and there’s a lot of superstition involved in sex work advertising. Especially because where you are getting your clients from is often hard to know.  As a result people tend to keep ads up that are not working for them just because they always had them or out of fear that if they make a change their work will slow. Remember just because you like or don’t like a  specific site or because they are friendly to sex workers ( they all should be as you are their clients)  is not reason to keep yourself off it or put yourself on a specific website. You are in this business to make money and advertising is a business decision. If the money you invest in ads pays off then it’s a good investment, if its not paying off how you want then you need to find something that works better for you. A lot of trial and error is involved in sex work advertising, a lot. Set yourself a monthly budget and get to putting up and tracking your ads. Keep in mind that spending your hard earned cash wisely is the key.. so here are some tips to help you get more for your advertising dollar.

1. Track your web hits: Do this! Seriously do it now, right now. Tracking your web hits will often give you the best picture of how people are finding you. What keywords / search terms they are using to find your clip site, your escort site, your blog, etc. Where are you getting link referrals.  (Protip: this is also a good way to see who’s sharing your files if you are a clip producer) If you are paying a company big bucks for an ad and no one is clicking over from that site to your site, then you’re not spending your money well. Not at all, not one wee little bit. You must use all the tools available to you and tracking your web hits is A number one.

2. Ask your clients: Be aware that they often don’t know, cant remember or just plain will lie  about it but it never hurts to ask. When I would get a phone calls, I would always ask “Where did you see my ad?” Often they would say some site I wasn’t listed on cuz they can be stupid, but a lot of the time they would tell me where they actually saw my ad and if i was real lucky what they liked about my ad and why they were moved to call. Bonus! Asking where your ad was found is also a good way to track your bullshit callers too. If the time-wasters are always telling you they saw you on site X well then maybe its time to take your ad off that site. Its not doing you any good and in fact its wasting your time. d=Dealing with time wasters all the time contributes to sex worker burn out in a big way.

01USDA wise veteran escort friend of mine told me way back in the day when I was a baby ho how to figure out where to place my ads and it holds true today, maybe even more so. Do a Google search as if you were a client looking for an escort to see. Google: Escorts, Los Angeles or Escorts, Washington DC or escorts and whatever city/state you happen to be working in. Now look at those sites, you should have a presence on most of them. There will be a mix of junk sites, mall sites and review sites. So take a little time and look them over. Someone is always trying to capitalize on what they think is escort cash cow money so there are new sites popping up all the time, many in fact most never last. Make sure a site has been around a while and is established, look over who else is on the site, anyone you know? Anyone you respect? Does it look like a slapped together directory with stolen photos? Weed out the crap and hone it down to the solid options.  If something offers a free ad and in the top 10 search returns and looks reputable then it might be worth sticking an ad up there and see what happens. If there’s a splashy mall site with a solid reputation in the top 10 then maybe its time to see about what they have to offer, if there’s a review site in the mix and you are a reviewed escort that allows reviews maybe its time to step up a little participation. All things to think about. If that review site has an ad section, get a price list. Then do a cost benefit analysis. If i spend X, i expect to make X in return. Then track as best you can those results. If it pays off great take that ad out again. If it doesn’t then cancel that ad. Remember the Internet is ever changing so you want to fine tune your potential ads all the time. A site that seems great may stop working and its time to move on to something else or maybe a site that under performed made some changes and is performing better so you want to give it a second try. This is an ongoing battle one that you will have to adapt too all the time. It will drive you nuts but its worth the effort and your time.

Do all the free advertising you can and by that I mean, If you like to blog then write a blog, If you like to take pictures of what you had for lunch then get an Instagram, if you enjoy reposting sexy photos give Tumblr a try. Of course tweet but remember this is your work persona and keep that in mind when you are tweeting up a storm. Make sure if you use 3rd party sites that you carefully read their TOS and keep it clean if they require that. You don’t want to get kicked off sites just when your marketing was starting to pay off there.

Find out what works for you. Invest your advertising dollars wisely. Then go out there and bring home the bacon.

DMCA Do It!

We all hate it when people steal from us. Make your living on the internet or advertise your sex work business on it and you can bet at some point someone will share your files or  steal your photos. It’s depressing and it can seem overwhelming to stay of top of the details of protecting your content but its worth the effort. This is how you make a living and I know it feels like  you’re playing whack-a-mole and you are. It’s a never ending process protecting your content but its part of doing business. Protecting your cash flow matters. I put together a little introduction to protecting your work, I hope you find it helpful.

Send out DMCA take down notices

This is the best thing you do. Send out a DMCA take down notice. Send them out and send them out as soon as you find out your file is being shared on some dirt bag file sharing site or as soon as you find out some body is pretending to be you by using your photos online.  My pal Johnathan over at Plagiarism Today has some stock letters you can use when sending out your notices. In fact read his whole site, there is a lot of great info there.  Remember every site has their own special requirements for a DMCA notice and if you don’t meet them they will ignore your notice. Read their policy and give them the info they want, in the way they want it. Be it email, fax or snail mail. Make sure to include your name address and phone number (I use my Google voice number and my working address) Tell them you are the copyright holder and give them the links they need to remove the content. It’s tedious and annoying but stay on it and send them out, it works. Don’t forget to follow up and send them a second or third or 50th notice if they don’t take action.

Monitor your content

Goggle yourself, set up alerts for your name (remember to include misspellings of your name) and check it all the time. A lot of the time I find out a file is being shared because a fan tells me. I always reward them with a little something for looking out for me, they can be your best resource for finding out your files are being shared. You can also hire a company to monitor your content for you, but that can be expensive. I would do a cost benefit analysis before I went that route, make sure its worth the money you are spending on it. Sometime it is, sometimes its better to do it yourself.

Watermark your content and embed your copyright

I admit it, I’m guilty of not always doing this, especially when I first started out. But don’t make the same mistake I made in the beginning and watermark your shit! It’s important. You can also embed your copyright when creating a Mp3 and add it to the hidden data on your photos. Again it’s time consuming and annoying but make it part of your habit, when you are creating content. Watermark like it’s second nature. Not only is having your watermark good for driving people who might see your stuff somewhere and drive them back to your site to find out more about you, but you can use that in case you get into a fight with some turd site who doesn’t want to remove your content from their site.

People stealing is always going to be a problem but its worth the time and effort to stay on top of your content. I wouldn’t suggest getting into a pissing match with any of these file sharing sites or boards, just do what you need to do behind the scenes. It’s not worth a loud messy frustrating fight or possibly putting a troll target on your back, but it it worth the effort. Make it.

4 easy ways to increase your clip sales

Everyone wants a lot of sales when they make clips. Be they straight ahead porn or doing what I do, selling fetish clips and mp3s. It’s always a happy day when a clip suddenly skyrockets and you begin seeing some serious pay off for all your hard front end work. Make no mistake about it, the front end work on selling clips is voluminous. There’s lots to do, filming editing, marketing promoting and when you’re just starting out it can be overwhelming at times. I know when I was first starting there was a lot of trial and error until I finally found my clip making groove. I was lucky enough to have some solid advice from a few ladies who really knew what they were doing. They steered me right and i’m thankful for that, it saved me time and in this business time is almost always money.  Not every one has a porn goddess willing to share a little of the wealth of clips making knowledge in their back pocket so heres a few tips that should help increase your sales straight off. Different tactics work for different sites so give them a shot, massage then to suite your niche and your style. The key point here is you gotta try stuff and then monitor the reactions.

1. Write good clips descriptions

Seems simple enough but even someone like me who writes for a living in the mainstream world had to figure out that a good description will sell even a mediocre clip. Doest matter if it’s in a first person style or third person, give it a little life. Don’t just say “Me sucking cock”  and hope it gets bought. Say something more like ” I love the feel of a long hard cock slipping down my eager waiting greedy cock-whore mouth so much, let me show you how much!”  Also think keywords, when writing your descriptions. Think about how potential customers would  search for the kinda clip your presenting and incorporate those terms into your descriptions. Then watch your sales increase.

2. Create your own animated gifs to upload

Lots of sites will auto generate animated gifs for your uploaded clips.  Do not use that function!  It’s never flattering and it rarely presents you in a good light. They are random pulls of stills from your clip and most of the time they get you mid blink! Create your own animated gif and upload that. You can decide whats enticing, whats flattering and present the clip in its best light. Some sites (one my favorites too) don’t give you the ability to upload your own animated gifs so you don’t have the option. In that case cross your fingers and hope for a good presentation. You can also do what I do, lobby them to make that option/function available to you. Sometimes sites will take your thoughts and requests into consideration when adding functions, especially if you can show them how it would make more money for you both.

3. Upload often

Upload, upload, upload! The more content you make, the more you can upload, the more you will be seen as someone who always has something new to offer, the more often people will visit your store.  This is the best way to increase sales, be prolific and create as much content as you can. That being said I know It’s not always easy to make a lot of content, lots of things get in they way, from not feeling inspired, to having a bad hair day. One trick is making your clips available in different formats. Create several different formats of of the same clip and viola!  One clip turns into 3 and you can have something to upload two extra days. Some clip stores will let you schedule your clips to go live in advance, take advantage that function and schedule your clips. Try it out at different times and see when you make more sales. Are you popular mornings? Late nights? I once had clips upload once an hour for 24 hours to test out when I got the most traffic. I learned a lot that day.

4. Keep your clip store designs clean and readable

Just because there are 10 different design functions available to you doest mean you should use all 10! Sometimes less is more. Keep your backgrounds clean so you can read the text on top of them. When good is amazing, mind blowing clip descriptions going to do for you if no one can read them because you have a busy background in 12 different rainbow colors making it impossible to read. Not everyone is a designer and its easy to get carried away, try to keep  it neat and clean and simple. Sometimes one sizzling hot photo at the top of your store is enough to make them scroll to see what you have to offer. Don’t forget to add an email address, a twitter if you have one (and if you don’t get one!)  and if you make custom clips mention that in your studio description. Customs clips are a great way to increase your bottom line, if you don’t make them, think about adding it to your repertoire

Being Your Very Own Fairy Whore Mother… or maybe not?

a.k.a, When and How to Help a Fellow Whore and When to Politely Decline.

Now as you know, we over here at Fairy Whore Mother thought there was a severe lack in resources for sex workers in the realm of “How-To” (or in some cases, “How-NOT-To”).  So, being that ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ and all that happy horseshit, add in the fact that we like helping and love our community and VOILA!, you have the awesomeness that is FWM. We also like seeing others reaching out to help one another survive in this crazy business. It really warms our cold, black little hearts. Many sex workers get solicited for advice on how to get into the biz, how to make more money while IN the biz, how to use a new platform/software/website, how to transition into a new sector of the biz… and so on and so forth. If you’ve been in this business for any amount of time at all, I’m sure you’ve been asked any or all of those questions a time or two. (If you haven’t, give it a little time, I’m sure it’s coming.) Giving a little help to a fellow ho (if you want to) can feel really fucking awesome BUT it can also be a big responsibility. Here’s a few things to ask yourself before becoming someone’s Patron Saint of Whoring.

What are your intentions?

Please don’t offer your help to a colleague if you’re only looking to make money off them. If you are starting a legit consulting business, congratulations, go for it. Be upfront about your pricing and do your thing, sugar! But if you’re not and you’re only willing to help others because getting them to sign up with the cam/phone/booty shaking company you work with solely because it gets you a referral bonus? Do us all a favor and don’t. That makes you look pretty damn shady. I’ve recommended the camming platform and clips sites I use because I’ve had good experiences with them and am comfortable suggesting them to others. Referrals are great and you shouldn’t feel guilty for getting them but really, in my opinion it’s not that important and I’ve never done the whole “be sure to tell them I sent you… blah blah blah…” spiel.

Be honest.

If someone has come to you for guidance and you’re inclined to give it, be truthful. I’ve shared my experiences when asked for them and I always try to give real, honest answers. Inflating my own success isn’t going to help anyone earn a proper paycheck if I’m really trying to help someone. Don’t lie about how much you make or how successful you are to someone who is seeking out your help. If you are friendly enough with this person to share something as intimate as your income, be a decent human and be honest. If you’re not comfortable sharing it, don’t. You’re not a bad person if that information feels too personal or intimate to give out and you shouldn’t feel guilty for saying so.

Do you know what you’re talking about?

Please be honest with yourself about your own expertise. If you don’t have enough insight to help another, don’t feel bad in simply saying so. In my experience, people have a really fucking hard time simply saying “I don’t know.” and give whatever dumbass convoluted mashup of wrong information that comes to their minds. There’s no shame in saying, “Sorry, I really am still figuring it all out for myself and may not be the best to help you get started.” You can direct them to someone you think may be better equipped and that is perfectly ok.

Are you willing to tell them ALL they need to know?

If you’re going to give them a little “starter advice” and then give them the sink-or-swim treatment, don’t even bother. Because honestly? You can do way more harm than good. If you’re going to take the responsibility of being someone’s “mentor”, you better give them ALL the pertinent details of the work. ESPECIALLY regarding safety tips and privacy concerns. I once listened in horror when I was told a cautionary tale about a provider getting a woman into escorting and then giving her NO advice on screening or privacy. Later, this newbie was outted to her family due to poor discretion practices that could have easily been avoided if she had gotten ANY advice on those things from her so-called “mentor”. Yes, it was the newbie’s responsibility to do her research on how to protect herself but she trusted this escort whom she thought was her friend and relied solely on her as she began her escorting career.

So if you decide you’d like to help someone the next time they ask for your assistance in this industry, do it with good intentions, be honest with yourself and them, and give them the full picture. You don’t need to write their whole damn business plan but do give them all the pertinent details; especially the information they’ll need begin successfully and safely.

Do you have any tips? I’d love to hear them in the comments!
